1) Information we collect
- Hunt participation details: team names, participant display names, join codes, and team assignments.
- Location data: device GPS information used to verify proximity to stops, support check-ins, and open directions.
- Hunt activity: answers, unlock state, completion progress, timestamps, scores, and leaderboard results.
- Proof photos: images your team uploads to complete required challenges or museum stops.
- Optional contact details: mobile numbers and moderator contact details when SMS reminders or updates are used.
- Technical data: browser, device, IP address, and basic logs needed to keep the service secure and reliable.
2) How we use information
- Run the scavenger hunt, unlock stops, validate check-ins, and calculate points.
- Display team progress, rankings, proof-photo galleries, and moderator session dashboards.
- Send requested SMS reminders, join confirmations, or moderator communications.
- Improve route design, troubleshoot issues, and protect the service from misuse or cheating.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to legitimate safety or abuse concerns.
3) How location works
Find It DC uses location features to help confirm that a team is close enough to a stop before unlocking
content. Depending on the action, location may be processed in the browser and may also be sent to our
servers to validate a check-in or route event. If you deny location permission, some hunt features may not work.
4) Proof photos and team galleries
Photos uploaded for hunt completion may be visible to the uploading team, the moderator for that hunt,
and any in-hunt team gallery or leaderboard-linked gallery we provide for that session. Please upload only
content you are comfortable sharing in that hunt context and avoid including sensitive personal information.
5) Sharing
- We share data with service providers that help us host the site, store media, send email or SMS, and secure the platform.
- Moderators may access hunt-session data needed to run the event they created or manage.
- We may disclose information when required by law or to protect users, organizers, or the service.
- We do not sell personal information for third-party advertising.
6) Retention and choices
- We keep hunt data for as long as needed to operate sessions, review results, support moderators, and meet legal or operational needs.
- You can stop using the service at any time, but completed hunt records and uploaded media may remain associated with the session.
- If you want to request deletion or review of data tied to a hunt, contact us with the hunt name or join code if available.
7) School groups and minors
Find It DC may be used by school groups, camps, or family groups. Organizers and guardians are responsible for
supervising participants and obtaining any permissions they need before sharing mobile numbers, photos, or location-enabled devices.
8) SMS and related policies
If a hunt uses text-message reminders or updates, those messages are also governed by our
SMS Terms and
SMS Campaign Policy.
